This is what I do to act like a child as I am writing 50 pages of papers for finals:

1. Make a faux finals-papers advent calendar. One for each page needed to be written for Fuller. Compose out of old newspapers.
1.5 Number from 0-50. Color with a black sharpie. (I love sharpies.)
2. Hang pages from the hallway with the help of some hemp.
3. Each time I finish writing a page of finals papers, wildly rip off a paper of said calendar. (Preferably do so with loud announcements: bells, maybe.)
4. Tape the ripped numbered pages to my door as a way to say, “oh, yay.”
5. Wonder why I did not think of this game sooner.

I really do not know how to write unless I have ridiculous deadlines such as this. Yes, I like it better this way. No, I wouldn’t like to write papers a little at a time. Only 40 more pages go. Due Friday at 5pm, Pacific. Lets. Go. Team.

  1. YAAAAAAYYYYYYY Go Jenelle!!!

    1. I’ve never written a paper longer than 3 pages.
    2. I despise writing papers, so I truly admire you right now.
    3. I’m rooting for you!

You can do it!!! Go Jenelle!

  2. You bring silly joy to all here watching you cheer yourself into happy- plugging- forward energy!!
Go Nelly!! It is much better to be 28 and encourage yourself to accomplich much rather then be 7, 10, or 12 yrs old and have a grouchy parent insist you get to your studies!! (OOPS! Guilty and grouchy. ๐Ÿ™

  3. “deadlines are certainly your friends. but one of these days,” she said, her voice taking on an annoying motherly tone, “when you are writing full time for your living, you will have to do at least a LITTLE planning a head.”

  4. Nelly, I know you’re good at deadlines, but you are also loca in the cabeza. Seriously, this is insane. And I wanted to tell you- a Fuller Missions school professor spoke at my Vineyard Sunday with her husband… her name is Jude. Jude something. I don’t remember. She had a phD, I remember that, and was from Norway, I think, originally. Anyway, they both said really good things, and I liked them:) They are on Sabbatical from their West (?) LA urban organization, so they are living in the Barb this fall.

  5. RAH RAH SIS BOOM BAH! I’m cheering you on Nelly!

I wish I had thought of such a fun way to motivate me to get my finals done. I just finished my final essay for the year this afternoon, right before the due date. I have no more writing for class until 2008! Wahoo! You can do it too! ๐Ÿ™‚ Love you nellers.

  6. I especially love your enthusiastic approach to finish what is before you…loving the opportunity(okay-responsibility in this case) to write your heart and mind out! WooHoo! I think your playful/joyful/grateful spirit is rubbing off on us…YEAH!!!
Move forward Nelly! God has gifted you with joy and hope in ALL things! Very Cool!
