1. Abraham’s blessing rests on him keeping Yahweh’s way in “doing righteousness and justice” Genesis 18:19
2. Lot offering his 2 daughters for gang rape is tremendously disturbing Genesis 19:8
3. Equally gross: The daughters getting their father drunk and then each sleeping with him to continue their line. Genesis 19:30-36
4. God’s mercy is nice: Genesis 19:15 and Genesis 20:6
5. Hagar’s pain is HUGE: Genesis 21:16
6. Wild how often God promises that ALL nations will be blessed (Genesis 22:18, of many). That is a hope we can pray through when we’re reading the World News.
7. The picture of Isaac re-digging his father’s wells is pretty. It’s a metaphor, too. Genesis 26:18

i never really put numbers 2&3 together. it’s the same poor girls who were just offered up to a mob to “do to them as you please” that were later basically raping their dad.
another thought that just occurred to me, the girls were betrothed (19:14). i wonder how the girls’ fiances felt about dad-in-law’s offer to the crowd? maybe that’s why when he started getting all religious on them (19:14b) they thought he was joking.

As I’m reading through Genesis again it’s amazing to me to notice how often the children replicate the uglies of their parents, again and again.
I was wondering the same thing about the fiances. What a horrendous scenario, that whole thing.
