6/ I Remember Gus the Cat
We had to leave him in Portugal with a new family, but he’s keeping busy as he is very well read. And very socially-connected.

5/ I Remember Taking off the Training Wheels
I remember learning to ride a bike by preparing to fall and not get hurt too badly. The longsleeves and thick jeans, the accidental reflex of holding my breath as I began to fall; it was all so bracing and normal. Daddy had to walk away and leave me alone. I had to ride in […]

4/ I Remember Thinking I Wanted to Be Married at Age 21ish
I clearly remember being in my adolescent (read: awkward) years and being fairly certain that by the time I was done with college, I would be married. I also remember graduating college and thinking something similar of my mid-twenties. Reflecting on such things now, I just sort of laugh inwardly and think yep-I-was-out-of-my-mind. No mean […]

3/ I Remember the Ocean in Estoril
Copyright 2009 JesusBranded I remember the year(s) in Portugal when my heart was cracked and dry. I needed to run near the ocean every day in order to clear my head to hear God. And over and over the waters whispered that times of refreshing would come to me. And I believed them because […]

2/ I Remember My Plastic Golf Clubs
I remember taking my plastic golf clubs to Schenectady Municipal Golf Course with my Daddy. I also remember looking for golf balls in the woods of Muni, keeping them safe in my Yankees hat. Then I’d wash them in those red ball-washers that you have to swish terrifically up and down. I’m pretty sure Daddy […]

1/ I Remember Having a College Radio Show
I remember WMBC, AM 560. Jeff, Nate and I rocked the mic at very odd hours of our UMBC radio days. We cued up the likes of Starflyer 59, Danielson Family, and other bits and pieces from Tooth and Nail records and their homies. We’d maybe sometimes play this weird dude with a banjo named […]

[2nd Annual] September is Called Remember
It is that time of the year again when I take a break from normal blogging to have some sort of Sabbath-type rest.* In February I have done a photo (or, Holga) a day. In September it has become my quirky tradition to spend each day celebrating a certain memory. And so, September (like February) […]

I Remember Tambourines As Freedom
I remember learning at a very young age–via tambourines, churchy things, and Mama–that God likes it when we are uninhibited. I learned it first when talking/singing/dancing to Jesus. But now I also see it as a breathing proverb that stretches out lengthily through our days. (Photo of Mute Math by Rico Moran)

I Remember Making “the Switch”
I remember saying in the days and months following 9/11 that I wanted to design a t-shirt. It would read: “Gas ain’t cheap, honey, but this country is fueled by fear.” It bothered me. (Those were the days when gas was cheap, and Americans overused it as much as we do today.) I remembering strongly […]

I Remember the Early Days of Summer Holidays
I remember our summer holidays to Cape Cod and Martha’s Vineyard. Our small family of three would buzz down the Mass Pike from Albany, in our old Oldsmobile. To my 4 year old senses it always felt like a 29 hour trip. I remember the heinous orange interior of the early ’80s beach houses we […]

I Remembering Discovering a Band, All By Myself
My early twenties were important self-actualization years, as it goes. I remember the day when I discovered Mates of State all by myself, without any help from my very-well-informed-hipster-before-we-called-them-hipster friends. It was a very important, magical moment for me. The year was 2002, my graduation year. I discovered Mates of State’s first song Hoarding it […]
