Today in my 11am class on The Spiritual Disciplines we were given 8 minutes to write a Psalm.  We’d been looking at Psalm 100, and I was particularly thinking about the final line of the song’s end: his faithfulness continues to all generations.

I wear God’s faithfulness as a coat in the ice-march
of an Albany winter.  His Name is a heated cottage
ready to receive me.
We have no other place to run when the uncertainty
falls from the sky like frozen bullets.

Though we wait in rooms walled with questions,
the megaphone of silence will not arrest us.
God’s love is much heavier than the wondering;
in a wordless season let us whisper back to him
only what is real.

I line my coat with sweat, but it is my own.
Children, do not run out into the blizzard in bare skin,
even if the teenagers next door always do.
