When it rains, I must ask others to drive me to work. On days when the rain comes suddenly, they give my bike a ride, too. I like the rainy day car conversations. They come as unexpectedly as the rain. We sit and squint through the wipers in the front seat, and the periwinkle Schwinn sits politely in the back.
The rain is really good for me, I know. And it will cover me, in the coming days.
I am slowly learning interdependence. We really need each other, you know.

I keep reciting these ones…
I can tell by the way the trees beat, after
so many dull days, on my worried windowpanes
that a storm is coming,
and I hear the far-off fields say things
I can’t bear without a friend,
I can’t love without a sister
…that German gave us some true words, eh?
indeed, we do need each other. that thought is so important to me that i felt the need to echo it…
